My Day Trips
What’s a Day Trip?
Day trips are basically just a day out of the house doing something fun or relaxing. It could be a trip to the beach, a picnic in the park, pretty much anything you can imagine up!
When my son was little, I used day trips as a reward for good behavior. It was part of my strategy for teaching him how to control himself. It worked well for awhile.
As he got older, his currency changed, so my strategy changed with it. But I can still get away with day trips to bribe him now and then.
For day trips, I use Roadtrippers to not only plan my route, but to also see what else we may come across along the way.
If I find a few spots to stop and visit on the way to our from the destination, we make a whole day out of it and have some fun exploring close to home, as opposed to taking a long road trip.
Obviously, our day trips are within a few hours from home so that we can get there and back in under 24 hours.

We’ve taken so, so many day trips over the years. It will take me a long time to get this list filled out. We live in Florida. Since Florida is a tourist state, we have tons and tons of places to visit for day trips. We’ve visited a lot over the years. I’ll work on digging up those pictures and writing about our memories at each spot so you know if it’s worth stopping or not.
I don’t have many day trips planned right now. But I will start planning them again soon and then we’ll hopefully get passed the pandemic hurdles and start traveling and visiting places again. Unfortunately, many places are still closed.
Day Trips I’ve Taken
The trips below are day trips that I’ve taken with my son… and maybe my bestie:
- Hudson Trip – April 2017
- Wauchula Trip – April 2019
- Fort King – December 2019
Day Trips I’ve Planned
Since I’ve planned these trips but haven’t taken them yet, I haven’t written up my reviews of the pit stops. Sorry about that, if only I had more time and money to travel! When I take the trips, I’ll get the stops reviewed and link them below.
- Florida City
- Haunted Highway
For the past few years, I’ve been working on getting things paid off and saving up to buy a house, so I’ve minimized my travel quite a bit. I’ve stopped the day trips that cost money pretty much. Also, my son recently started working his first job so getting days off at the same time for a day trip has been challenging. But we’ll get back to exploring soon enough.
If you’re looking to plan a road trip, be sure to check out the Roadtrippers Trip Planner to see what all may interest you and get it added to your trip. It’s amazing how many hidden treasures are out there just waiting to be explored. Driving several hours to see one place just seems like a waste to me, why not see what else is along your route and make the most of the trip? Just, please… do me a favor and travel safe.
