Puerto Rico Scenery

So this post is a little different from other posts as I won’t talk about any specific stop that we visited.  Our Puerto Rico vacation was severely derailed on day 6 of our trip.  After visiting Cave Camuy, we were looking for some sort of old Indian reservation or something and we got a little bit lost.

We stopped at this small river and it was so pretty.  My mom collects rocks so we went down to find her a rock.  The grassy area was wet and there was a slight decline from where the road was to the water’s edge.  As I was walking down to the water’s edge to catch up to my son, I slipped on fallen wet leaves.

My foot slid in between two tree roots that were halfway above ground and ended up tripping me.  Well, my foot was lodged in between the two roots when I tripped so I went down and my foot stayed in place which broke off the tip of my tibia and shattered my fibula.  We ended up having to call for an ambulance and I was in the hospital for 3 days because I needed emergency surgery.

Obviously, rest became the top priority after that so we didn’t really go out much once I was released from the hospital.  My son went out with his grandpa and visited a couple of places though, I included his pictures in the gallery at the bottom of this post but I couldn’t tell you where they went.  I also included random pictures I took each day while we were out and about.

Summary

After breaking my ankle, I was unable to fly home when our 10 days was over because the surgeon was concerned about blood clots.  So, we ended up staying in Puerto Rico for a full month while I recovered from the broken ankle.  During that time, we mostly stayed home so I could rest.

We did go to the beach two more times before leaving Puerto Rico, but I didn’t take many pictures as I had lost my enthusiasm for the trip.  One of them was Combate Beach, which we had already been to.  The other was Boquerón Beach.

This was the first time I had ever experienced a serious mishap on a vacation and the injury threw me into a depression that took me several months to come out of.  I am all healed up now and doing well.  One word of advice, when you are offered accident insurance during your travels, take it!  If I would have, it would’ve saved me tens of thousands of dollars that this trip ended up costing me in both medical bills and flight transfers.

In the meantime, be safe and hug your loved ones!
