St Augustine Day Trip Florida
St Augustine Day Trip Florida
Shortly after my Washington DC Road Trip, my parents moved to Puerto Rico to retire. As a result, this was the first year my son and I wouldn’t have family around for the holidays. A trip to Puerto Rico wasn’t in the cards for us that year.
So, I decided that he and I would take a day trip to St. Augustine Thanksgiving weekend to have some fun and keep our minds off of missing his grandparents.
We had driven through St. Augustine on our DC trip, but we weren’t able to see some of the places we had planned to see because they weren’t open yet when we went. Naturally, those were the places I chose to go visit for this day trip. Afterward, we stopped by the beach for a few minutes.
So, we visited:
Before this trip, we had been to St. Augustine together twice before. The first time, we went with my grandparents to downtown St. Augustine and we visited Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. The second time we went together, it was just the two of us and we took the St. Augustine Ghost Tour by Ghosts & Gravestones.
This trip was just the two of us again and we wanted to check off the places that we had planned to visit before but didn’t get to see. So that’s exactly what we did. We took this trip on November 25, 2015. Since we were just going to the places we didn’t get to see on our DC trip, I didn’t use Roadtrippers to plan an itinerary. I already knew where we were going.

My Next St Augustine Day Trip
Bestie and I were talking about planning a day trip to St. Augustine this year for our birthdays since they are only a week apart. The COVID-19 pandemic cancelled a few road trips for us already in the past year so we were itching to get away. Anyway, we planned a short trip, we just haven’t taken it yet.
Actual Plans
The trip is planned for just 1 day and 1 night in St. Augustine. She has not seen Fort Matanzas yet so we decided to go there. And then we wanted to stay at Casa Monica Resort & Spa and to GhoSt Augustine for a ghost tour that night. The next day we’d decide if we wanted to do anything else before we made the drive home.
For our next trip to St. Augustine, Florida, we’ve planned for the following stops:
-
- Pick up my bestie at her house.
- Fort Matanzas National Monument
- Casa Monica Resort & Spa
- GhoSt Augustine
Home!

It’s amazing how many hidden treasures are out there just waiting to be explored. Driving several hours to see one place just seems like a waste to me. Why not see what else is along your route and make the most of the trip? Just, please… do me a favor and travel safe.
